Every AI roleplay app promises it "never forgets." Then your character forgets your name by message twenty. I ran the same scene through four apps to see which one actually held it together.
Short answer: GoLove.ai is the pick if you want an AI chat RP that survives past a single session. Not because it's the smartest model in the room — it isn't always — but because your character's personality doesn't reset, nothing refuses you mid-scene, and photos and voice live inside the chat instead of in some separate tool you have to go dig up.

Why Filtered Platforms Kill the Roleplay
Here's the mechanic nobody names directly. You're eight messages into a scene that's finally building, and then the reply comes back in a different voice — clinical, apologetic, suddenly talking about the character instead of as her. My test was boring on purpose. First session, I planted one specific detail — my character was a night-shift ER nurse, and I mentioned I'd be off rotation Thursday. Then I closed the app and left it alone for two days.
Came back with no prompt and no reminder. She opened by asking how the last shift went before the break. That's continuity, not a lucky reroll.
Two of the four apps couldn't manage it. One reconstructed a vaguely similar detail and got the job wrong, which is arguably worse than forgetting — confidently wrong is something you notice, and it snaps you out of the scene instantly.

Video sits behind both of those, but it's there: Generate Video from Photo turns a still into a short clip without opening a separate tab, and Video Actions in Chat drops a Select Action modal right into the thread. The generator underneath is per-character — 35 realistic poses, 21 outfits, 34 backgrounds, batches of 2, 4 or 8 images.
Character.AI, JanitorAI and Chai have none of this inside the chat — no in-scene photos at all. If the visual side of RP is what you've been missing, this is the one feature no amount of clever prompting replaces.
Character Depth for Erotic Roleplay
Four apps and a lot of dead scenes later, here's my checklist for whether a character is actually built for RP:
- Consistency — the same traits show up in message 3 and message 300, without you re-prompting them.
- Backstory that gets referenced — a bio nobody uses is decoration. Good characters bring their own history into the scene unprompted.
- Distinct voice — swap two characters' replies and you should be able to tell which is which. Most rosters fail this badly.
- Tone range — she can be flirty, then submissive, then soft, without a hard reset between.
